Based in Kusadasi and day tripped to known sites as reccommended in the Gosney Guide to Western Turkey and A Birdwatchers Guide to Turkey. Car hire was pre-booked and picked up at Izmir Airport which cost € 220 for the week, petrol was expensive working out € 1.80 p/litre and driving was relatively easy and most roads were of reasonable standard and overall the locals were very friendly .

Our target species were Kruper's and Rock Nuthatch's, Sombre Tit and Dalmatian Pelican and of course to photograph as many species as possible. To maximise our trip every day was spent in the field visiting sites Bafa Golu, Menderes Delta, Efes Marsh, Ephesus, Pamukale & Menemen (north Izmir) which totalled circa 2,000 km.
